by Jose Marinez
Get the latest news from Microsoft and Nokia about bringing Silverlight to Nokia platforms.
During last week’s MIX ’08 event - an intimate gathering where cutting-edge technical, creative and business strategists engage with Microsoft in a conversation about the future of the web - Nokia announced the porting of Silverlight to all of Nokia’s platforms.
Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform and cross-device plugin for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. Think of Silverlight as a direct competitor to Adobe’s Flash. Silverlight will be ported to Nokia’s featured phone and smartphone platforms - Series 40 and Series 60 respectively - as well as the internet tablet, Maemo.
With Silverlight, Nokia’s S60 3rd Edition continues to be the most versatile platform for mobile developers. Existing supported development technologies include Java ME, Python, Flash Lite, Open C and the Web Run Time. With Silverlight and its support for .NET languages, S60 is now accessible from C#, IronPython and IronRuby as well.
